There's something terrific about the ocean - and I mean that in the sense of being something so terrifying but beautiful all at once. I painted this piece after a day in Portsea where I climbed over the rocks and stood on the edge as the waves threw themselves against the shore. In that moment there was something terrifying about knowing that that inky blue darkness was so expansive, but simultaneously calming. Like realising we are so small in the great scheme of nature.
This piece has become one of my favourite ever seascapes and I'm so excited to share it with you.
This piece took around 6 hours to complete and I loved spending time trying to capture the sea foam and the puddles of water across the rocks as well as the dichotomy between these crisp breaking waves and the swirling, soft shadows below.
